CANANDAIGUA: George Cherry, formerly of Hook Road, Farmington, died at his Dorset Drive home on Sunday, July 4, the 60th. anniversary of his and Dorothy’s marriage.
George was born in Bloomfield on Feb. 22, 1931 to the late William and Florence Thomas Cherry. He attended Bloomfield schools and retired from the former Mobil Chemical Co. in 1982. He had also worked for the former Stuart Caves Lumber in Bloomfield. Mr. Cherry farmed for most of his life and had worked for Dr. & Mrs. Ault, Emmet Finnegan and Damaske Farms. He will be remembered for his love of horses. He had raised ponies, race horses, Clydesdales, Percherons and Haflingers. He was a lifetime member of the Tri County Draft Horse Club and the Percheron Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Strong Cherry; his sister Doris Busby of Canandaigua; his brothers-in-law Robert Martin, Canandaigua and Butch Strong, Bloomfield; his sister-in-law Mildred Barber of Canandaigua and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua, Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00. Pastor Don Muller will officiate and burial will be in the East Bloomfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the East Bloomfield Cemetery Association, c/o Harrison Marble, 29 Oakmount Ave., Bloomfield, NY 14469 or to the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Ave. , Rochester, NY 14620.
