Although I never knew Dick personally, he has been part of my life since I first saw him race in the late 1960's. I had the pleasure of spending about a 1/2 hour on the phone with him about a year ago, and found that what everyone else had said was true... he was a very nice man, and my life is better for him sharing a few moments with me. When I heard the news, I informed a friend, Mike Shaffer, who has been a long-time personal friend of Dick, Donna, Louie and the family. I don't know if Mike will make it on here, but I can assure you that the man had tears in his eyes, and a lump in his throat. To me, that's quite a testament to a mans character... when his own passing can bring a grown man to tears.
Speaking from the racing community, I can assure you Dick will never be forgotten.
