JOHN S. HAYS

CANANDAIGUA: Former Park Avenue resident John Hays, 86, passed away on March 7th. at Thompson Hospital.

John was born in Morristown, NJ on Dec. 18, 1925 to the late John R. and Iva Shepperd. He was a graduate of Brighton High School and attended the University of Rochester. He was a member and Moderator of the First Congregational Church and was a forty-year member and Past President of the Canandaigua Kiwanis Club. John served with the U.S. Navy during WW-2 and the Korean Conflict. He had been manager of the former G.M. Kennedy & Son Furniture Store and later owned and operated the Appliance Store in Canandaigua before becoming associated with City Mattress.

Survivors include his son Stephen Hays of Farmington; his daughters Linda (Douglas) Graham of St. Petersburg, Fl and Mary (Ronald) Cappellino of Penfield; five grandchildren Jennifer and Jessica Hays and Allison, Annette and Erica Cappellino; his sister Joan Dessloch of Providence, RI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, in 1999 and his sister Mary Risley.

Friends are invited to call at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the First Congregational Church, 58 North Main
St., Canandaigua, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. The family has suggested that contributions in John's memory be directed to the Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua Foundation c/o Marie Blair, Treasurer, POB 863, Canandaigua, NY or to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
