Robert (Bob) Edward Robinson passed away on April 26, 2012 at the age of 95. At the time of his death, Bob was in the excellent care of the team at Ewing Continuing Care facility in Canandaigua, NY.
Bob was born March 9, 1917 in Painted Post, NY and spent the early years of his life on a farm. When his parents both died by the time he was 11, Bob lived a few years in the care of loving foster parents in Painted Post, the Johnsons. As World War II developed, Bob volunteered for service in the Army and after basic training, sailed to England aboard the original Queen Mary. Bob served for 18 months in England as part of a gunnery squad tasked with shooting down V1 rockets. Later he was part of the massive Normandy campaign. For his service, Bob was awarded several commendations.
After the war ended, Bob soon married Mary Alice Neal (Eveland) from Cohocton NY, who had been widowed when her first husband was lost in action over Europe. They settled in Bloomfield and Bob lived there for 64 years. Over the years, Bob held a variety of jobs, but retired from the Canandaigua School system. At the time of his death, Bob was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Savage Post #970, a lifetime member of the East Bloomfield – Holcomb Fire Department and a long-time member of the Bloomfield Methodist Church. Bob was an avid gardener and was well known for delivering vegetables to friends and neighbors.
Bob is survived by 3 children, Laura Neal-McCollum of Seattle WA, Charles D. Robinson (Debbie) of Bloomfield NY and Edward R. Robinson (Mary) of Orr’s Island ME. During his life, Bob was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Bloomfield Methodist Church, 18 State Street, Bloomfield NY 14469 at a later date at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Bloomfield Methodist Church, East Bloomfield-Holcomb Fire Department or to the Bloomfield American Legion Savage Post #970 for the Honor Flight Program, PO Box 41, Bloomfield NY 14469.
